Tangerine, ruby red grapefruit, and ginger mocktails are super simple non-alcoholic drinks to serve on game-day that highlight some of the best fall citrus fruit. These mocktails are tart, perfectly sweet, unlike other grapefruit varieties, the ruby red brings a sweet tanginess to the party, and the ginger ale combined with the ginger simple syrup delivers a spicy kick that will keep you and your guests coming back for more. Best of all, this is one of those drinks that will please a varied crowd. Those who want a non-alcoholic beverage can enjoy as is while the others can combine with a light beer or vodka if they wish. No matter what, this beverage is undeniably refreshing plus its versatility will earn you some major host points. Try pairing with burgers spread with a ginger-garlic aioli, ginger glazed ribs or marinated skirt steak. The options are endless.

Ingredients

Serves 12

Ginger simple syrup

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 cup sliced ginger

Mocktail

  • 4 cups orange juice, chilled

  • 3 cups fresh tangerine juice, chilled

  • 1 cup fresh ruby red grapefruit juice, chilled

  • 1 liter ginger ale

  • Ginger simple syrup, to taste

  • Ice

Directions

To make the simple syrup:

  1. Add the sugar and water to a small saucepan.

  2. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. 

  3. Stir and let boil for 2 minutes or until the sugar dissolves. 

  4. Add the ginger. 

  5. Reduce to a simmer and let simmer for 15 minutes.

  6. Leave to cool for 40 minutes. 

  7. Strain and store in a bottle or jar.

For the mocktails:

  1. Add the orange juice to a pitcher with the tangerine juice, grapefruit juice, and ginger ale. Stir.

  2. Add ginger simple syrup to taste.

  3. Serve over ice.
