Spiritless Kentucky 74 Non-Alcoholic Bourbon Whiskey

Use it anywhere you'd reach for bourbon — non-alcoholic Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, Kentucky Mules, or a Whiskey Sour. For an Old Fashioned, stir 2¼ oz Kentucky 74 with ¼ oz simple syrup and 3 dashes of Fee Brothers Old Fashion Aromatic Bitters in a double rocks glass over ice, then garnish with orange peel.

It's made with oak extract, water, natural flavors, glycerine, sugar, citric acid, xanthan gum, and preservatives (sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate). A 2 oz serving has just 15 calories and 1 g of sugar, and the bottle is 700 ml.

Spiritless is a women-founded non-alcoholic spirits company started in 2019 by Lauren Chitwood, Abbey Ferguson, and Lexie Larsen, who came up with the idea while trying to find a good bourbon alternative in their hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The company moved its corporate headquarters to Austin, Texas in 2021, though it keeps its Kentucky roots front and center — Kentucky 74 is named for the state's 74th licensed distillery. Alongside the Kentucky 74 bourbon alternative, they also make Jalisco 55 and ready-to-mix pour-over cocktails.

For a drink to be legally non-alcoholic, it has to be 0.5% alcohol by volume or less. While this doesn't make it totally alcohol-free, it does mean it is impossible to experience any intoxication or other psychoactive effects from alcohol. For context, a slice of sourdough bread or a ripe banana has more alcohol by volume than any of our drinks!

Some contain trace amounts of alcohol at less than 0.5% alcohol by volume.  This is consistent with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s labeling policy, which permits the use of the term, “non-alcoholic” to describe a product that contains less than 0.5% alcohol by volume.

Non-alcoholic spirits are specifically developed for mixing in non-alcoholic cocktails. These spirits taste great when mixed with soda water, tonic water, sodas, juices, and even other non-alcoholic spirits, but they might taste a little weird on their own. You're welcome to try them neat (we can't stop you!), but we don't recommend assessing whether or not you like a non-alcoholic spirit without mixing it, first.
