The Charleston Grill is an old-school, upscale Southern restaurant in the famed Charleston Place Hotel.

It’s got dark lighting, lots of mahogany and live jazz. It’s also got one of the most thoughtful zero-proof menus in Charleston.

We came for the famed “bold fashioned,” a non-alcoholic take on the, you guessed it, old fashioned. But the restaurant also offers a NA rosé sparkling from Wölffer and a Panakam (an Indian drink with cardamom) & soda.

The bartender not only made the experience of ordering zero-proof drinks comfortable, but she was actually excited we were there to enjoy their offerings.

As an aside, the restaurant’s GM, Mickey Bakst, is the co-creator of a recovery group for restaurant industry employees called Ben’s Friends. He created the group with fellow Charleston restaurateur Steve Palmer of the Indigo Road Group.
